The parliament of Spain finally forbade a referendum about independence of CataloniaAtrur Masdeputata of the Spanish parliament, after long debate, voted against carrying out a referendum about independence of Catalonia. Against 299 deputies voted, in protection of a referendum 47 members acted only.

At the beginning of debate from a tribune of parliament the official position of Spain was read. The government considers that "is formal, from the substantial point of view the referendum is not entered in a framework of the legal Spanish state". In the statement it was noted that vote breaks two articles of the constitution — that "the national sovereignty belongs to the Spanish people", and about "indestructible unity of the Spanish nation".

After that in protection of a referendum members of parliament of Catalonia acted. In the performances Catalans emotionally tried to prove that the referendum is lawful, and the right of Catalans to self-determination should be observed strictly. The deputy from party "Convergence and the union" Jordi Turull reminded that their nation — "one of the most ancient nations of the world".

In turn, the president of the Catalan government Arthur Mas who was absent in Madrid, declared that «it yet the end» as «the authorities of Catalonia intend to look for lawful ways» for carrying out a referendum.
