41 beaches of the Canary Islands received the status of A blue flagThe international ecological program «Blue flag» awarded beaches of the Canary Islands with 41 awards. Also this award awarded 5 ports of the archipelago.

In total the Blue flag awarded beaches and ports of 24 municipalities of the Canary Islands. The island of Grand Canary became the leader by quantity of awards for an excellent condition of beaches – it was awarded 13 awards. The island of Tenerife received 11 of «Blue flags», Fuerteventur – 7, and a La Palm tree, Lansarotta and La Homer – five, four and one award respectively.

Among all ports of the archipelago the award awarded Mogan’s (Mogan) ports and Pasito Blanco (Pasito Blanco) of the island Las Palmas; Puerto-Kalero (Puerto Calero) on the island to Lansarota; ports Los Gigantes (Los Gigantes) and sea club of Real-de-Tenerife (Real Club Nautico de Tenerife) of the island of Tenerife.

These awards confirm quality of beaches of the archipelago with the best climatic conditions on Earth and explain, why the Canary Islands became one of the most popular directions in the world for various types of rest, including beach. Only for last year the Canary Islands were visited by about 13 million tourists. With full confidence it is possible to tell that as the basis that was served by the surprising beaches, the developed tourist infrastructure, soft climate and the unique volcanic nature of the archipelago.

The blue flag – the international award which is annually handed over since 1987 to beaches and ports, water in which meets ecological requirements and is suitable for safe bathing. Compliance to criteria of the Blue flag demands observance of the strict quality standards of water, purity and safety. Besides these key criteria, the beaches noted by the Blue flag, guarantee to vacationers a free access on the territory, lack of pets, clean sand, existence of shower booths, possibility to receive the urgent help. The nomination the Blue flag is under control of Fund of ecological education (Foundation for Environmental Education – FEE) which consists of 65 organizations being in 60 countries of the world.
