The quantity of the Spanish beaches which have received the highest quality mark in the form of a blue flag (bandera azul), grew to 577 this summer. The record figure for Spain allowed the country to become again the leader in this classification of the best beaches.
In spite of the fact that the total of beaches with a blue flag grew (in their last year was registered 573), the number of yacht-clubs and sports ports with the highest mark decreased to 101 (by seven less, than last year). Such data were provided today by Association of ecological education and the consumer (Asociacion de Educacion Ambiental y del Consumidor), the Spanish office of the European fund of ecological education (Federacion Europea de Educacion Ambiental).
Receiving a blue flag for a beach possibly only at compliance to a set of standards, such as quality of water and appropriate ecological management, availability to disabled people, placement of the center of medical services and rescuers.
This year, for the first time, the blue flag was received by a river beach in the city Puente Kaldelas (Pontevedr’s province). The quantity of beaches of the highest category in Galicia and Murcia while on their Balearic Islands became on 11 less most of all increased.
